The plan was for all the Cooper Union athletes to leave the New Academic Building at 6am on Saturday, August 27, for their week of intense training right before the start of classes. Unfortunately, the arrival of Hurricane Irene delayed that departure for all involved. Out of concern for the athletes’ safety, the first day at Cape Cod was moved to Monday, August 29. And what a beautiful first day it was! The sun was shining, there was barely a cloud in the clear blue sky, and traffic going out of the city was a dream. (Unfortunately, the aftermath Irene made it impossible for some key members of Cooper Union athletics to be present at Cape Cod, and they will be surely be missed.) The athletes arrived at the Cape, unpacked, and then were ready to train and to work out.

Soccer Drills: Jorge Runs
The soccer team’s physical strength was challenged with timed drills and with balance exercises.

The men’s and women’s volleyball teams had two hours of practice in a sandy court.

And the basketball players were also hard at work!
Last but not least, the tennis team was also training as hard as they can. And afterward, we all had a delicious pizza dinner on a beautiful ferry ride on the Onset River!
