Dean Baker’s Ski Trip for Cooper Union Students

The rigorous fall semester at Cooper Union starts in September and ends late December, when we take our well deserved winter break.  This break is a chance for everybody to visit home, but it’s also a chance to have fun- and on Dean Baker’s Ski Trip, there’s plenty of fun to be had! Every year for the past 35 years, our ski trip has witnessed the making of new friendships and the strengthening of old bonds.  Not only for our athletes, this trip is an open invitation to all of Cooper Union, friends and family! Even President Campbell, who has been the president of Cooper Union until just this June, has been going on the trip each year to enjoy the beautiful slopes on Mont Sutton.  January, 2012 will see the 36th annual school trip.

Who can go?

Cooper Union people, friends of Cooper Union people, and Cooper Union families!

Anybody who loves skiing or snowboarding, and those who want to learn.

So many people wanted to go in 2011 that we needed to make a waiting list!

Where do we go?

Mont Sutton ski resort, an hour’s drive from Montreal, Canada.

When is the trip?

At the end of winter break, in January. The 36th trip will be in 2012, from Sunday, January 8 to Friday, January 13.

How long do we stay?

We ski for six days and stay for five nights.

Where do we stay?

Each group of 3-12 skiers gets a chalet all to itself.

What if I’ve never skied?

For as long as anybody can remember, Dean Baker and former President George Campbell, Jr. have volunteered their time to teach new skiers the skills they need to become expert skiers.

Are rentals available?

Of course, they are. Cooper Union skiers and snowboarders get a special rate!

More to do on the Ski Trip:

How do I find out more?

Not long after classes start, ski trip posters and fliers will begin to appear in Cooper Union, announcing meetings where you can sign up for the ski trip contact list.  Be sure to keep an eye out for them!
