At the end of every summer, Cooper Union’s athletes give up the last week of their break to go to Cape Cod for some seriously intense pre-season training. The Basketball, Cross Country, Soccer, Volleyball, and Tennis teams all come together in one place for a chance to push themselves to do the best they can do in each respective sport. It is also a chance for the Cooper Union team, as one entity, to build team spirit. “Cape Cod is an opportunity for players,” Dean Baker says, “to rise as individuals and to build camaraderie.”
The tradition of Cooper Union training at Cape Cod started in 1992, when Dean Baker first brought the Men’s Soccer team there. Since then, our athletes have learned to keep their last week of summer free, and to expect some sore muscles to follow them to the beach at the Cape.

All the athletes gather for a party after a day of training.
